Default Paragon secondaries to choose?

I am thinking of starting a paragon but don't really know what secondary to use.

I know elementalist could be good for earth wards.
Warrior for tactics shouts.
I don't see much use for monk besides rebirth.

I tried searching for paragon secondary stuff and it all came up as threads using paragon as their secondary.

So I would like to hear others suggestions about classes for a paragon secondary.

at first a was a p/w and was just mashing my way thru PvE. then i realized that this wasnt gonna work forever. i was doing 27 to 34 dmg with the darksong and it feels like it takes forever to throw that spear to get Ad up.

so now i switched to P/N and im liking it. i went motavation/command and blood for now, will cap a few skills more and try to find more cores to use and see how it goes

I'm plodding along slowly with a Paragorn I've started and he's a P/W. I'm probably using some different tactics then most folks but I've been able to get the 1st 15 missions behind me and hit 2nd tier survivor and he's still kicking. This has been done with just heros and henchies.

The key I think to any paragorn is the fact they make EXCELLANT battlefield commanders and at least in my opinin should be the ones that call targets now. A lot of their skills are based on making others more effective and not making your Paragorn a walking tank or damage dealer. Mine has been played using warrior shouts, go for the eyes, Anthem of Flame, and a few others to help my team of heros, who you want to take the time to build so they can be of use to you. The nice thing about heros is they don't whine, leave the party, or become annoying. It has done well with combinations of nec minion masters, rangers using barrage, and warriors with hundred blades.

There are ways I think to produce yourself a damage dealing paragorn, but I have had some great success using mine as the battlefield commander and simply supporting my men. If it's dead and your still alive, I'd call it success !

There are many times I don't use a secondary at all. If I am going with a support build, I will crank up motivation and leadership. Or I might go with spear damage and buff up attacks.

My most common secondary is elementalist, though I use the fire line and glowing gaze and searing heat to deal damage, and burning spear and anthem of flame to ensure that glowing gaze gives me 2 energy not cost me anything.

I mostly use my Paragon for shouts and what not P/W and P/Rt seem to be my main class choices. I noticed that P/Mo using the protection line is pretty nice. Aegis is a good touch if you can manage the energy. P/Rt is nice for some support spirits, once again if you can manage the energy.

I guess I still have a hang-over from my warrior days but at the moment I am running a P/W in PvE with a lot of success. All my attributes are in spear and tactics and she is a very good spiker.

Spear 16
Tactics 12

- "For Great Justice!" (Warrior other)
- Spear of Lightning (Spear Mastery)
- Cruel Spear [Elite] (Spear Mastery)
- Blazing Spear (Spear Mastery)
- "Watch Yourself!" (Tactics)
- Shield Stance (Tactics)
- Resurrection Signet ()
- Healing Signet (Tactics)

Probably later I will experiment with the "pure" paragon build but with this build you lay down huge damage.

I chose P/Me

[skill]Epidemic[/skill]

Barbed Spear + Epidemic = mass bleeding
Cruel Spear + Epidemic = mass deep wound

Then there are the mesmer stances which I really quite like.

Suppose the main reason people take warrior secondary for the time being is for "Watch Yourself" (hell even I took warrior lol, and dont plan on changing thanks to this skill)...it's basically a low adrenaline cost (4) shout that's earshot (like all your others) and adds armor, recharges fast, causes echos to reapply and gives you 6 energy back at 12 leadership (and it costs no energy to cast). Basically it's a good bang for the buck...and if you combine this with "Stand Your Ground" (provided you're a command paragon so it lasts quite some time with its 45 second recharge) you'll have about +44 armor when standing still/fighting. ...did I mention it's basically a free shout that gives you energy and recharges echos?

WoW !

Interesting you could make quite a set up there using the right combo of heros. Your setting that Para up to pretty much apply conditions. I'm assuming those you can't bleed you deep wound ?

I too chose P/Me.

Mainly for Revealed Hex/Shatter Hex.

I don't like the Paragon's hex removal ability.

Yeah, epidemic, fevered dreams (e), extend conditions, fragility, are all good.

While P/W has excellent syngergies, I think the only thing the Paragon was missing was a good hex removal skill. Paragons can run, heal, has a hard rez, remove conditions, good defense, good offense, cause conditions, etc.

IMO P/W is one of the best choices. The power of "watch yourself" is too good to refuse. Protecting all of your allies with +20 armor for 4 adrenaline is as good as it gets. stances and IAS skills from the warrior also make great additions to your skill bar for both offensive and defensive purposes.

I chose P/W, as Mad Man stated, the power of watch yourself on a paragon is great. Also, with the easy adrenaline gain of watch yourself, you get a energy gain every time it is shouted with leadership.

Celestial Beaver: Your idea is interesting. I'm going to have to try it out sometime- the mass deep wound.. very very tempting.

Epidemic is "adjacent" foes, so "mass deep wound" is pushing it a bit. You might get 3 enemies with it if you're lucky.
Is it worth 5 energy? Hell yes. Worth it over Watch Yourself? Highly debatable.

Something I tried during the pvp event was a paragon/necro with Tainted Flesh and Godspeed. Everyone had the benefit of Tainted Flesh and a speed boost which was nearly permanent.

During the pvp event, though, I think it was something like Aria of Swiftness or something and the recharge was closer to the duration than it is now. Now it's a shout.

I'm trying a P/R and building a Para-BeastMistress. It may work very well -- or not .
